THE VERGE has reported that Google has transferred the domain Duck.com to DuckDuckGo Corporation.

The domain name was originally owned by On2 Technologies (then known as The Duck Corporation) until this company was acquired by Google Corporation. Google ownership of Duck.com must have been troubling for DuckDuckGo Corporation, as users looking for the DuckDuckGo search engine could instead end up at Google.

The transfer of the domain is a significant development for the DuckDuckGo search engine, as usability of the platform is strongly increased. Explaining to privacy minded internet users that they should try a search engine called "DuckDuckGo" was always a challenge.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
